CAFÉ
Strategyfrom concept to opening day
Most café businesses don't fail because of bad coffee. They fail because the foundations weren't right — the wrong location, a lease signed before the numbers stacked up, a concept that didn't survive contact with a real customer. Café strategy is about doing that thinking before it becomes expensive to undo.
We work with first-time owners at the earliest possible stage — sometimes before you've found a site, sometimes after you've found the perfect space but haven't yet committed. We help you stress-test the idea, build a plan you can actually execute, and understand the decisions that will define whether the business works.
What's Included
Business Planning
A working business plan that holds up to scrutiny — revenue model, cost structure, break-even analysis, and funding requirements. Written in plain English, not consultant-speak.
Financial Modelling
Custom P&L models built around your real numbers: rent, staffing, product costs, and realistic revenue assumptions based on comparable sites.
Site Selection Criteria
A clear framework for evaluating locations — footfall, demographics, competition, lease terms, and fit-out costs. So you know what you're looking for before you walk through a door.
Concept Definition
Who are you for? What do you do better than everyone else nearby? We help you get precise about your positioning before you build anything.
Launch Roadmap
A sequenced plan from decision to opening day — covering milestones, dependencies, and the things first-time owners consistently underestimate.
Pre-Opening Checklist
Equipment, licensing, supplier accounts, staffing timelines, health and safety compliance — everything you need to open without last-minute scrambles.

The Situation
Emma came to us eight months before her planned opening with a concept she loved but a business plan that didn't add up. The location she'd fallen for would have required £180k in fit-out and had rent at 22% of projected revenue — well above the sustainable ceiling.
The Outcome
We helped her renegotiate a rent-free period, specify a phased fit-out approach that reduced initial capital requirements by 40%, and find a second location with better fundamentals. She opened on budget and hit profitability in month four.

Café strategy engagements are scoped and priced based on what you need. A focused financial model and site criteria document starts from £2,500. A full pre-opening strategy — business plan, financial model, concept definition, and launch roadmap — is typically £4,500–£6,500.
All prices are quoted excluding VAT. We don't charge for the initial discovery call.
Common Questions
When is the right time to start strategy work?
The earlier the better — ideally before you've signed a lease or committed significant capital. The most expensive mistakes in café openings happen in the first few decisions: wrong location, wrong concept positioning, wrong cost assumptions. If you're in the 'thinking about it' stage, that's the right time to talk.
I already have a business plan. Can you review it?
Absolutely. A business plan review is often the fastest way to identify where the assumptions are optimistic or where the numbers don't stack up. We can do a focused review as a standalone piece of work.
Do you help with funding applications?
We build business plans and financial models to a standard that supports funding conversations — bank loans, investor pitches, or grant applications. We don't act as brokers or make introductions to funders, but the documentation we produce is built to that standard.
What if I've already found my site?
We can still help — and quickly. If you're in the middle of lease negotiations or have a site you're committed to, the focus shifts to making that site work: costing the fit-out, modelling the revenue, and building the launch plan. The earlier we're involved, the more options we have.
